Geography & Districts
What is established
AJK’s mountain landscape includes valleys, rivers, forests, and roads that connect towns and villages. Administrative geography is organised into divisions, districts, and tehsils. Place records in the archive use district and tehsil fields where known. Centres documented in Dhār include Muzaffarabad, Mirpur, Rawalakot, Kotli, and other towns.
What is disputed or contested
Boundary lines, district names, and maps of the wider Kashmir region are politically charged. A schematic on this site is not a claim about an international border.
Terminology used by Dhār
District and tehsil names follow the administrative labels used in AJK source documents unless a record notes an alternative local name.
Why that terminology is used
Researchers need to find records by the names that appear in official papers, press, and oral accounts. Alternative spellings are stored on Place records.
